Creating your own backyard golf space is a dream for many golf fans. The work to make it come true is fun. In Episode 1 of this Westberry project, we mark the start of the plan in rural Iowa. We show the land’s start, the thinking behind it, and the first steps to turn raw earth into a golfer’s spot.

The Birth of Westberry

Westberry starts from deep drive and aim. The owner found the land by chance. The space stood as a blank slate for a private golf spot. In Iowa, the area grows wild blackberries and holds West Highland White Terriers called Westies. This simple setup reflects the owner’s love for the land and for golf.

The owner recalled playing golf as a child in Minnesota. They aimed to build a small course at home. Many have built private courses, but this site shows a mix of old golf traditions with new ideas.

Crafting the Course

The Westberry course grew with care and hard work. The project has nine tee boxes that shape a varied game. Plans are in place for a putting green. The main area uses a kind of ryegrass that brings a fresh feel. The owner’s fondness for this grass marks each step with a personal touch.

One early task was to keep the land neat. They cleared trash and mowed the grounds well. The neat front yard is not for play, but its tidy look adds charm to Westberry.

The Challenges of Terrain

Building a course on raw land came with its own tests. For instance, the first green was set by chance. Early digging showed that the green spot needed more change than planned. With work and trial, a natural ryegrass patch was found that fits a green. This shift shows how work changes as needs do.

Innovating Along the Way

Westberry does not yet have a full putting green. That does not stop a good game. The owner says fans can find real fun in many forms of golf. The quick spots for easy shots show that a full setup is not needed to enjoy the game. New plans and smart work stay at the heart of this project.

Moving Forward: The Potential of Westberry

As work goes on, hope grows. The owner sees Westberry not just as it stands but as what it might be. A mix of DIY work and clear planning builds a space for both community and care.

Building a backyard golf course like Westberry needs more than just land. It calls for a dream, a plan, and hard work. In future episodes, we will show more parts of this project. We share new ideas and fun moments in building a private golf spot at home. Join the journey as each step turns a dream into truth, one swing at a time.
